Mark L. Merlin, MD

Dr. Mark Merlin, a Louisiana native, was practicing at a large radiation and medical oncology group in New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina uprooted him and his family to Atlanta. Dr. Merlin reached out to Radiotherapy Clinics of Georgia (RCOG) because of its strong reputation in the treatment of prostate cancer, and he has been practicing at RCOG’s Decatur location ever since.

Following in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Dr. Merlin elected to become a physician. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University and trained at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

“I decided to pursue radiation oncology because I had an interest in caring for patients with cancer and the technology used in treatment,” Dr. Merlin said.

After losing everything in the hurricane, he and his wife and their two children decided to make Georgia their permanent home, filling their spare time with soccer, gymnastics and hiking. He and his wife also compete in triathlons and marathons.
